PECORA, Francis Alfred "Frank" - 63, Outram, Annapolis Co., passed away August 2, 2005, at home. Born July 11, 1942, in South Philadelphia, he was a son of Andrew (Frank) and Marie (Loughhead) Pecora. Retired after 28 years with the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board and the previous Annapolis School Board, Frank, in his role as Coordinator of Community Education and Co-operative Education, advocated and supported many programs in the Valley and had the foresight to listen and respond effectively to what each community needed. He was an advocate for youth at risk, and we are grateful for the legacy that Frank and Community Education leaves us - literally thousands of citizens have improved the quality of their lives through AVRSB programs. The following are many of the projects and community committees that Frank, through AVRSB Community Education, supported and championed over the years: youth internship programs, smoking cessation, Black History Month celebrations, youth conferences and community youth workers, wage subsidy programs and youth entrepreneurship activities, 24-7, School Tools, and Signposts. Frank co-ordinated the Job Resource Centre (Windsor) and the Adult High Schools in Hants West, Kings and Annapolis Counties, Co-op Education. He was a member of many committees: AVRSB/NSISP, Facility Management at Horton High School, Nova Scotia Student Insurance Program, Provincial Community Education Committee, Representative of NSTU, Hants and Kings County Action Team member, Director of Kings County Learning Association (KCLA), Director of the Echo (Enterprise Centre of Hants County), member of the CED (Community Economic Development Agency) and Nova Scotia School for Adult Learning. Frank was instrumental in the development of the AVRSB Nova Scotia International Student Program. He created the partnership of the International Residential School program with the Annapolis Basin Conference Centre (ABCC) in Cornwallis and worked several years with the Korean Elementary School Program. He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Brewster); sons, Justin (Kaori) and Jude, both of Venice Beach, Calif.; sisters, Roseann (Rosh), Las Vegas, Nev., and Marie (Barry) Schulze, Sutherland, Va. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Bernard. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday, August 5, in Middleton Funeral Home (902-825-3448), where a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 6. A reception will follow. Frank will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Donations may be made to the Frank Pecora Memorial Bursary with the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board.
